My 2025 Theme Reveal (and the intentions that will have me living it!)
I love to choose a theme to guide me through the year and because I believe in ‘walking the walk, I’m sharing my theme, complete with intentions that will have me living it!
Oh, FULL DISCLAIMER here: this blog is also an accountability piece for me. Once I hit ‘publish’, I’ve shared my theme and the commitment to fulfill it is out there.
What you’ll find here is the results of my 2025 planning but if you want to work through it step-by-step to choose your own theme, I’ve included it my blog on ‘How to Choose a Theme for the New Year’.
Before we jump in, know that there aren’t any rules. You can grab hold of a little bit of this process or all of it. Whatever feels right for you is to the right thing to do.
My Step-by-Step Process
For me, I go deep and I know this can be a lot so stick with me here. I’ve shared it in detail below but in a nutshell, here is what I do:
-
- Check in with my VALUES – have they changed from the previous year?
-
- Do a reflection exercise (you can cut to the chase and get it here) which leads me to choosing my theme for the year.
-
- Write out guiding questions that will keep me on track to live my theme.
-
- Write out my Twelve Commandments – this is new this year and I’ve shared below what inspired me to expand on this. I really love it!
-
- Set intentions for each of my 5 realms – you can find mine below but make it your own.
-
- Break it down into goals for each of my realm’s intentions.
-
- Check in monthly (or sometimes every 2nd month) and reload on my goals.
Lighthouse’s Set Your Intentions for Your Best Life online course is my starting point and it may give you a solid foundation to choose your theme and to determine what you want to build in the new year. It’s pretty awesome if I do say so myself and that’s why I’m offering you 25% off. Just click here and use the coupon code SYI2025 at checkout.
My 2025 Theme Reveal
For 2025, I landed on Just Be LILY as my theme and it always starts with clarity of what that actually means. So, a definition rolls into an overarching intention of how Just Be Lily will guide me through the year.
Many years ago, my nickname Lily was given to me out of joy and playfulness. My 2025 theme recaptures the essence of that nickname in different ways. First, to stay true to who I am. To stay in my lane. To let go of all that doesn’t serve me. To accept transition and allow it to guide me to what’s most meaningful. To infuse lightness into life. To keep focused on my well-being: mind, body & spirit. And, to always lead with love.
Guiding Questions to Fulfill My 2025 Theme
Next, I ground that intention with questions that guide me to fulfill that theme.
-
- How can I infuse the essence of being Lily into all realms of my life: self, professional, relationships, community & legacy?
-
- Does this person/action connect me with who I want to be?
-
- How do I want to spend my time and does this embody the essence of who I want to be at this stage in my life?
-
- How do I want to feel this year? Loved and loving, positive, non-judgemental, respectful and respected, gentle, peaceful, supported and supportive, fulfilled, relaxed, content, connected, happy, helpful, healthy, kind, with grace, a full heart.

Have you done a values exercise? If not, here is one I’ve used with clients for years and it is amazing! Yours for free here.
My Twelve Commandments
When Gretchen Rubin’s book, The Happiness Project came out in 2009, I was all over it. Those were crazy busy years for me and although I am absolutely a happy person, I knew I could be a little happier. For whatever reason, I was inspired to pick up the book again as I worked through my 2025 planning process. That led me to borrowing two ideas from Rubin.
The first is the Twelve Commandments. Rubin created these as overarching principles to live her life by. It’s not an easy process but I’m already seeing how these commandments are guiding me to live the life I want to live. If you’re keen to give it a try, here are her instructions on how to make that happen.
Next bit of inspiration – Rubin chose “Be Gretchen” as her first commandment and it feels so right to me that I not only chose it as my commandment but as my theme too. Adding in my nickname adds a little more mojo for me.
MY TWELVE COMMANDMENTS
- Be Lily.
- What would love do? Always lead with love.
- Abandon perfection and let it go – nobody will care.
- Stay in your lane.
- Change and transition are your guides. Embrace it.
- Your well-being is in your hands – nurture it.
- Do the things you love to do.
- You have time for whatever you really want. Don’t waste it.
- Simple gestures are everything.
- Celebrate your people.
- Keep learning and growing.
- JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out) & JOGAYOP (Joy Of Going At Your Own Pace) – JOMO = It’s okay to say no. It’s okay to rest. JOGAYOP =Adopt the rhythm and speed of living that feels right for you. Let go of societal pressure to be where everyone else is at.
My 2025 Intentions
Earlier, I mentioned that I create intentions for my 5 realms. Often, I recommend simplifying things with 4 realms: self, professional, relationships and financial. At this stage in my life, these 5 realms fit: self, health and wellness, professional, relationships and lastly, community and legacy.
And yes, I break it down further into goals that will help me to fulfill these intentions. I haven’t shared them here because goals are not stagnant. I review them monthly (or every second month) and choose what I want to work on and if relevant, replace them with new goals. Life changes and so does what we want to achieve.
SELF: My Intention for SELF – I fill my time doing things that bring me joy.
HEALTH & WELLNESS: My Intention for HEALTH & WELLNESS – I make healthy choices that are rooted in supporting my mind, body and soul. This encompasses self-love, self-kindness and gentleness.
PROFESSIONAL: My intention for PROFESSIONAL – I am content with letting the future flow and will explore what retirement looks like. That means I only take on clients that light me up.
RELATIONSHIPS: My Intention for RELATIONSHIPS – I infuse Lily into all my relationships. I dedicate time to relationships that energize me and are based on mutual respect and trust, meaningful generosity and unconditional kindness. I set clear boundaries to thrive in relationships of mutual care.
COMMUNITY & LEGACY: My Intention for COMMUNITY & LEGACY – My commitment to community is reignited. My ability to make a difference to the environment around me is a primary focus. I will find compassion as I dedicate time on storytelling to create legacy and fulfill one of my lifelong dreams. Infuse Lily into everything I do.
Now, It’s Your Turn
Maybe you have everything you need to work through a process that is meaningful to you. If so, that’s wonderful. But, let me encourage you to grab your calendar right now and set aside time to actually do the work. You don’t have to take a lot of time and honestly, sometimes it’s better not to. Overthinking is the enemy of results!
If having worksheets on hand to self-guide your way through it will help, you’ll find everything you need in the ‘Tools & Free Gifts’ section so start downloading now.
Last but not least, people often find having a process broken into digestible pieces ensures accountability and results. That’s why the ‘Set Your Intentions for Your Best Life’ online course is Lighthouse’s most popular offering. And, I’m discounting the already affordable price of $37! Just use the code SYI2025 at checkout for 25% off. It comes with me to champion you through it all too. ♥️
